In his first official visit to the Philippines, H.E Dr. Kamleshwar Kumar Sinha, Deputy Secretary General (DSG) of Nepal National Commission (NNC) for UNESCO visited the PH NatCom and representatives from government agencies including DepEd, DFA, PHSA, and DENR. Dr. Sinha’s visit was aimed at exploring the country’s best practices in education, sustainable development, and management.
In his meeting with PH NatCom and DepEd representative Assistant Secretary Jesus, milestones in the education sector, focused on the K-12 updates, were presented. Asec. Mateo also discussed how the concerned agencies are complementing their efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals for our country’s education sector.
Part of his visit to the Philippines was a tour to UNESCO Clubs and ASP Network Schools., Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) headed by Dr. Victor Emmanuel Carmelo D. Nadera, where he personally interacted with students and teachers in their alternative learning classrooms. They had a comprehensive discussion on the conservation and promotion of the Filipino artistic and cultural traditions. He noted that PHSA has an innovative approach to learning which he wants to share in Nepal.
In the meeting with DENR, Atty. Jonas R. Leones, DENR Undersecretary for Environment and International Environmental Affairs presented the current state of the Philippine environment. Past collaborations and partnerships of DENR with UN bodies were also discussed during the meeting. DSG Kumar Sinha was also keen on learning our country’s best efforts and practices in Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Rick Reduction and Management.
Dr. Sinha was also able to visit a UNESCO Heritage Site, the San Agustin Church, which is located at Intramuros.
The fruitful visit established the cooperation among two very active National Commission, Philippines and Nepal, to exchange knowledge and best practices for a more dynamic and wide-ranging implementation of UNESCO programs and projects.
