UNACOM Hosts UNESCO Memory of the World Roadshow and Workshop in Davao

Published On: September 22nd, 2025

The UNESCO-Philippine National Commission (UNACOM), in partnership with its Philippine National Memory of the World Committee and the Holy Cross of Davao College, is holding the UNESCO MoW Programme Roadshow and Nomination Workshop today, 22 September 2025, in Davao City, furthering its mission to promote awareness and strengthen the safeguarding of the country’s rich documentary heritage.

This Davao leg is part of a nationwide series of MoW roadshows following the relaunch of the Programme in Manila on 29 April 2025. This initiative is spearheaded by Professor Nick Deocampo, Philippine MoW Committee Chair and staunch advocate for documentary heritage and film education, to underscore the Philippines’ active role in enriching the world’s collective memory. Over the years, UNACOM and the Philippine MoW Committee has successfully advanced Philippine nominations to MoW International, Regional, and National Registers, affirming the global value of the nation’s archival and documentary treasures.

Participants will include representatives from national memory institutions, local governments, academe, indigenous groups, and student organizations of Holy Cross of Davao College such as the Sinag Culture and the Arts Collective, Koro Krusyendo, and Compass. Through lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities, participants are gaining valuable knowledge on how to safeguard documentary heritage and prepare nominations for possible inscription in the MoW International, Regional, or National Registers.

Launched in 1992, the UNESCO MoW Programme seeks to safeguard humanity’s documentary heritage and ensure its accessibility for present and future generations. Through initiatives such as this roadshow, UNACOM and the Philippine MoW Committee aim to build a stronger culture of preservation, ensuring that the nation’s collective memory remains a wellspring of knowledge and inspiration.
