The Local Government Unit of Puerto Galera spearheads and takes part in the celebration of the International Biosphere Reserve Day 2025, centered on the theme “Shaping a Sustainable Future for People and Nature,” at Muelle Cultural Heritage Park, November 24, 2025.

Puerto Galera, with the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, brought together youth leaders from the municipality and various Biosphere Reserves across the country for the two-day Youth Summit 2025.

The summit featured presentations from the provinces of Palawan, Albay, and Apayao Biosphere Reserves, along with insights from the Puerto Galera Biosphere Reserve (PGBR). Presentations highlighted youth participation in environmental governance, sustainable practices, and collaborative initiatives across BRs.

The event also showcases the “Sustainable Innovations,” a research exhibit led by Puerto Galera National High School Main Campus, highlighting community partners, youth-led projects, and school-based environmental initiatives. Participants engaged in an open forum, poster walkthrough, and knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at strengthening youth involvement in conservation, governance, and sustainable development.

Through this, Puerto Galera reaffirmed its commitment as a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve, empowering young stewards, fostering collaboration among BRs, and advancing shared efforts to safeguard the country’s ecological and cultural heritage.
